Across each stage of the ExPAND framework, learners engage with AI in progressive, complex, and meaningful ways. From early exposure and simple prompting to task-based instruction and ethical decision-making, ExPAND promotes deeper interaction and greater learner agency over time.

Completing All Stages to Level Up

One key principle of the ExPAND framework is that students only progress when they have mastered the skills and reflective habits of their current level. To make this journey clear and motivating, a stage-specific traffic light system is used. Progression is adaptive rather than linear. This iterative approach ensures that strong performance is recognised, weaker areas receive targeted support, and every learner can progress at their own pace with the right balance of challenge and guidance.
